Crossing into a new year is always a time for both reflection and hope. The world celebrates together as we look back over all that the outgoing year has held – good and bad, challenging and encouraging – and turn to walk into the future with refreshed goals and dreams. We are happy you are with us on this journey and have much to celebrate with you!
Celebrating a Mental Health Milestone
Thirty four years ago, in 1990, MHAGC began offering Crisis Intervention Services (CIS) through CRISISline. As we move into 2024, we are excited to share with you that our CIS program has just crossed over the half-million mark in contacts. That’s more than 500,000 people who have called, texted, or chatted our Lifeline over the years. Read more here about the efforts and evolution that brought the program this far, including the incredible contributions of so many partners who care for your mental health as much as we do.
Gratitude for a Great Operation Santa Claus
The Operation Santa Claus program runs each year through November and early December, collecting health and hygiene products and small items of comfort or enjoyment for our neighbors with chronic mental health conditions who are either homeless or living in supported housing. We publicly thank our donors and supports and share pictures of OSC 2023 in action here.
Champions in Our Midst
On December 20, 2023, during a meeting of the SC Suicide Prevention Coalition at the SC legislature, Emily Michenfelder, one of our very own 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline volunteers at MHAGC, was awarded the 2023 Zero Suicide Champion Award. Click here to see Senator Katrina Shealy, the Coalition’s Co-Chair, announce the award and hear Michenfelder respond to this honor.
As you move forward into this new year, we hope you do so with appreciation for the past and a sense of possibility for what’s to come. Please remember that we are here, in hours dark and light, to help you find the peace you seek.
